A dead person's AI representation pleaded leniency for his murderer
Another reminder of the dystopia we live in...
The case
An Arizona man convicted in a deadly road-rage incident was sentenced last week to 10 1/2 years in prison following a groundbreaking courtroom moment in which the victim addressed the court through artificial intelligence.
The judge handed down the maximum sentence to Gabriel Paul Horcasitas, 54, for the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Christopher Pelkey on November 13, 2021. Horcasitas was convicted earlier this year of manslaughter and endangerment.
In a possible first-of-its-kind use of technology in court, Judge Lang permitted Pelkey's loved ones to present an AI-generated representation of the victim, complete with his likeness and a lifelike voice, that appeared to plead for leniency on the killer’s behalf.

My thoughts
This is just insane y'all - I'm speechless. I do get that his family had the call in this, and if it was shown in court, that must mean they approve of this, but damn, man.
From them showing a picture of what he would've looked like once he aged, to him saying that "he'd like to make his own impact statement" - when he's...dead.
And lastly, the AI generation saying that they could "be friends in another life" - wow, that's just...wow.
Even the judge in the video at the end says "I love that AI"
I'm a big AI-enthusiast, but this is just...sad.
